We (they) have a tradition in Norway called "Dugnad" which directly translates to "Volantry" so for example my kids kindergarten asks us to attend dugnad once a year to clean windows, cut back hedges, paint walls etc, and if your kid does after school stuff then there's dugnads involved, and if you don't attend you get a bill! And as I'm a tradesman they try to get me to look at tiling but before I realised it was the norm I was a bit negative and said I didn't do 3 years learning on crap money to give away freebies, that went down like a lead baloon but I totally got away with it as my ex is the main signature on all things official so I can sit back and laugh while she goes window cleaning, I'm a stubborn git, not getting involved and due to circumstances theres nowt they can do about it, anyhoo..... my boss's kids are in an after school football club and have sponsership from bama fruit or bendit fruit can't remember, who also sponser Norways national team, so his dugnad is to attent the game on Saturday to cut up and sell fruit, so I'm doing my first ever dugnad taking his wifes place, will be selling fruit and seeing the game for free, now I'm not one to cause trouble but I'll be in the Norwegian end but obviously I will just have to wear my England shirt. Rule Britania.

I would agree TJ if the activities were free, then I'd do it, but it's £230 a month to send my kid to barnehagen, £900 a season for football clubs, and all 3 of my bosses kids do football so that's 3 x £900, they do well enough financially to hire maintenance, and considering the bosses kids team is also sponsered and they say you can buy out of dugnad for £150, it's a mick take mate. And they educate my kid or train sports, I raise her. There's also 2 other reasons I'm not intrested. If it happened in UK then someone would bring a few cases of beer. Here you're up there with the fiddlers if you even think about alcohol when kids are around. And secondly, the locals are typically shy and retiring, at best reserved, dugnads are usually a load of adults not talking to each other, it'd drive me potty.

Cutting fruit and selling it at a football game? Never knew there was fruit in a football stadium thought it was all pies and beer?
You must be joking, this is Norway, there will be kids there, no booze, oh no, not allowed. I wish I'd added to the gene pool with a Dane, totally the opposite alcohol attitude there

Well I wouldn't have thought that. Not sure the fans would go in UK if they couldn't get a pint and some pie and chips.
Yeah well you wait till after the game and the visiting barmy army goes out on the lash and get charged a tenner for .4l of local beer, even more for imports like Guiness & Carling, England had better win to justify the supporters going home skinted by the pubs!
