Yes, I like Kung Fu Panda!!

Too many students have come to my husband's H's class, with Bruce Lee in mind but without any idea of the training or self-control or any wisdom involved about when to apply that is what's learned and the lenght of time it takes. Basically, most just want to come and learn how to beat someone to a pulp while donning a six-pack. And when they get smart H just shows them just a little bit what they still have to learn and yes, they are surprised that things a) can hurt them, too, just enough to get the message and b) that they can't do anything with that old guy... But there are a few gems and these young men, very few women who stick with it, (myself, I had to give up after 17 years), get better and better and better at sensing the finest intention and direction and balance behind each touch, their own and their opponents' and then it gets exciting. These are the true martial artists, not the ones who just show up wanting to learn how to show off to their mates.
A true quality martial artist uses his head as much as his body, and that quality does not leave them when they get too old to cope with a young man's game, that just gets better. People skills are a big part of that. And that training never ever stops. Trust me, I'm married to it all, the attitudes, the battles, the stances, the easing off, the mindset that has to change from old tough training 'student obeys the master' attitudes to modern attitudes of free will and joy!! You don't see Bruce Lee lying down in the grass looking at the sky giggling with joy much do you. Blooming hard work. Intensity gets things done, is is good for a happy life? I'm not sure.
