Enveloping?

Hi,

Is there some documentation somehwere about how to envelope a wetroom floor correctly. I understand the basic principles but wondered if there is some good bed time reading on it.

Looked at many of the pics in the gallery which was helpful.

Is there a forula to How far from the drain you envelope etc?

are you making a wet for or just tiling it ? if tiling what size is the tray and where is the trap placed . realy need a drawing and size??? and size of tiles ,

Will post all the info shortly. They are 600 x 300 porcelain tiles and I am just doing the tiling. Not sure of tray sizes off top of my head.

dry lay over the tray, transfer fall lines onto tiles and cut. wet cut give a better grout line than dry cut

start by putting 4 tiles together with the middle over center and square with the trap .then lay tiles around these ( lay everything dry) draw line out from the corners of the trap to the corners of the tray.. if you then wet cut the tiles along these tiles number each one , lay them back down in order see what the look like if all ok and it kites in to the trap the set them in. oh yes you will first have to cut the trap square out from the four corners.:hurray:

Basiclly, the fall runs in four ways from centre of drain to each corner of tray.
Draw this line on tray, this indicates where diagonal cuts should be in tiles.
Good idea to sand or polish edges of diagonal cuts.somtimez get nastysharp edges
Also best to cut with wetsaw or grinder, this gives you your spacing, if yo score & snap then you will have problems aligning the field tiles.

when wet cutting thes porcelain tiles the thickness of the blade will give you the grout line . it will be hard to polish !!

use a polisher or varri speed grinder, you only need to put fine mirco bevel on ege of tile, easy even porcelain

Hi Graham, sorry just found this. Are you using a preformed tray, or forming it yourself in sand and cement. If the latter the falls should be 1 in 60, as above for the mitres. Good luck

Could use mosaic to save you cutting any tiles for the enveloping

Hi Phil, using preformed trays. All trays are being installed by the plumbers, I just have to tile. Will defo wet cut them also.

So when I dry lay the tiles on the tray, I do them edge to edge with no space as the blade will give me the space. Then cut the corners off for the drain.

Another tip
this works if you have a steady hand

You need sheet of ply same size as tray
Position drain cover in centre, mark position & remove.
dry lay tiles with spacers, use long level to mark diag cutz on tiles.
use wooden batten. Align with mark, hold down batten with foot, then use this as a guide for your grinder.
Cut along line, keepin grinder tight to batten.
Takes practice but dead quick.
Works a treat x

that is because he has not cross bonded !!

Why would you mitre mosaics? Cross bonding a must for this situation

By cross bonding do you mean staggering the joints of the tiles/sheets?

Secondly, doies anyone have or no of a photo of a proper mosaic wetroom floor. Looking through the gallery and I cant see one?

the" mosaics" in the video arent mosaics they look like 30x30 tiles made to give the effect of mosaics
