I've worked at alot of big houses recently doing bathrooms and many of them have nearly all the floors downstairs laid in Karndean. I have to admit it does look good(not as good as tiles) and I just thought of all that work that I wouldn't be able to get with alot of these customers using this instead of tiles.
I've been really busy for the last 6 months and I want to keep it that way so now I have a bit of money to reinvest in myself I'm thinking of doing the Karndean course which is about £500 so I have 2 strings to my bow, hopefully it will help keep me busy.
I think its best to do it now while I have the work and the capital to invest. I think this skill will go well with my tiling.
Do some of you guys who do other stuff like laying wood flooring find you need other skills other than tiling to keep you busy?
Anyone else thinking of investing in other skills this year?
Anyone done the Karndean course or actually lays it themselves?

Polyflor and Amtico also do trainging courses in luxury vinyl tile/ plank. Karndean has invested a huge amount of money and time into a new training centre recently I believe though.

I did the full down stairs in my home a few years back with polyflor. I think if you are planning to give it a go then a course would be beneficial for you. They will show best ways to cut, tools of the trade and will advise on corret adhesives as like tiling there are different types for different locations e.g. pressure sensitive etc.

In most cases you just scribe around objects but for more intricit work there are specialest hand tools available which you can pick up on the internet or a flooring distributers.

There is good money to be made in this work especialy design work if you can do motifs etc. A few years back a floor layer wouldnt fit this for any less than £80 (min charge), meterage etc goes up if customer wants to incorporate borders etc.

Alot of bathroom and kitchens companies employ fitters to install this but I have began to see more and more Joiners offering this service these days which show that many are jumping on the band wagen.

I tell you what mate, this is where having more than one forum can pay off for the members. We have a guy, username "persistent king" on www.flooringadviceforum.com, the guy has pretty much ran it for the last few years. He's part of the training industry now and can help you get on a course that's recognised within the trade. Send him a PM on there or on here (pretty sure he uses the same username on here). Tell him you're from the tile forum and want information on training.
