chipboard - not the best surface to tile
nailed - must be screw fixed as screw will resist movement due to thermal and moisture changes much better

There are various adhesives available and in the above case we would recommend Mapei S2 Ultraflex Quick or Keraquick and Latex Plus . expensive but maybe less so...........but...................if the timber were exteririor grade or WBP plywood of a similar thickness secured with screws etc and rigid and stable in this case tiles may be fixed in Mapei Keraquick without the additive

Coincidentally, I spoke to Mapei technical support today. They told me to put an overlay of 15mm marine quality plywood on top because of the possible deflection of the chipboard between joists. But I do not see how 15mm plywood can be more rigid than 22mm chipboard which has already been overspecified (NHBC say 18mm will do) and why use marine quality when the chipboard is water resistant. And then still use the Mapei S2 Ultraflex Quick or Keraquick and Latex Plus.
Anyhow, I could not put the plywood, even if I wanted to as my door heights are fixed now. Added to this, I still do not see why screw it down when the distance between nails is 170-200mm and the boards are glued to the joists too.
I think I am going back to the Dunlop guy advice with my tail between my legs

If I use something like Bal Fastflex, what grouting will people recommend? with additive?. Will I be saving if I use the Mapei Keraquick adhesive as it is also a grout and can use the material left for the grouting. Although I will need flexible grouting for the walls so is it better to get a flexible grouting which is usable for walls and floor?
The gap I intend to leave is 3mm unless people think otherwise

Mapei Keraquick is not a grout and can't be used as one! You can use Keraquick with latex plus for timber floors. It works out a bit cheaper than fastflex but I find much nicer to use. Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout will do the job fine, no additive needed.

It says here, maybe the seller is wrong
Baths and ensuite bathrooms.
I think you have misunderstood the website page Fredmila. Grout and adhesive appears to be a section heading. if you read the detail of the text, you will see that there is no mention of grouting, only use as an adhesive.
