External Granite tiling

Hi. i'm in a bit of a dilema. I need to lay 600 x 900 20mm granite paving on an external area next to the outside swimming pool.

• What should i lay these on. the ground at the moment is 150mm of concrete, which is very level. Could i lay these with some form of adhesive or is it best to lay them on a screed bed?
• The client wants a 6mm spacing for grouting. What sort of grout should i use?
• Would i need to seal the paving with a stain stop type product?

It depend on the level.
Sand and cement it's easier, but if you can't afford to rise the level about another 40-50 mm, you'd better go with adhesive.

Btw, 6mm joints :yikes: - sorry for saying, but is your customer insane?

Yep, but doesn't make any difference, once you have solid concrete under.

Thanks Milan11. I can raise the level, so i'll go with a screed. i've never used a grout on this type of product before. The client likes the idea of seeing an outile of every tile. Is it best for me to talk the client out of it of use some other form of filling the joints?

If you'll go for screed, don't use the grout.

You can buy a special product to fill these joints, or use same send and cement instead.
Btw, what colour is your granite?

Its a silver/black colour. The client has seen it on a Grand Designs type programme so likes some form of outline around the tiles.

Then it's simple.

Put more cement into mix to make colour grey and then simply using a big brush fill those joints.

if your fixing with sand and cement you,ll need to paint the back with a cement slurry prior to fixing
