Ahh happy days when I did non linear video editing.
Multiple video tracks, masks in an editing software package such as Premiere and probably rotoscoping in Adobe Photoshop.

Well basically the image is already on the board but its painted out at the start and by trickery of overlaying video tracks and an image software package its slowly revealed...time consuming but easy.
