May was my best month yet, just over 3k and the rest of this week off, but next month is looking a little thin, I am still in the middle of tasking a customer to court and just had a call from a customer that has decided he is unhappy with a small mosaic splash back I finished off as his mate had cut his finger off halfway through the job, he had set it out wrong leaving 4mm cuts and this was with a natural stone mosaic, even my smallest cutter just ate them up...... Quick cheer me up before I search the job pages. It just seems like it's all hassle at the minute but only a few days ago I was laughing all the way to the bank.

Try to please all your customers but as said above you can't please them all. Just concentrate the rest of this week on getting your name out some more, perhaps call/visit a few of the tile shops you've visited before now and spend some time with each of them quoting materials / tiles for a job or two that you have planned.

Never ever quit this easy though mate. Work out what % of customers are happy / unhappy and make this a statistic that you constantly work on improving. If 90% of your customers are happy that's not bad going but there's room for improvement - sort of thing.

Chin up though mate. You always need the odd slow patch to identify when you're busy and to keep you on your toes. ;)

JimBob, 3K is good going alright, but as you are now finding out its the average over a few months that counts with holidays etc.
Ive made over a grand in one week yet only a few hundred some other weeks. I tend to try and price fairly and work as quickly & efficiently through my diary as I can trying to keep everyone happy and biting my tongue alot. Keep at it & good luck

ah i very nearly didnt go into my current job today (part time at sainsburys) jsut felt like handing in my notice saying i quit and never going back to do another shift, but decided to go ahead anyway cos ill jsut regret it afterwards, the day went ok and i set up a trade account at tile town and found out what tiles this developer is using, so ofcourse ill show them plus a few others and when i say ill get them for this price blah blah and whatever hopefully ill get the job for all 24 apartments  still stressing about it as i need this job, guess we all have ups and down. look on the bright side tho, you've earned a nice 3,000 wedge this month, perhaps its the nice weather urging people to take the leap and update their propertys, bit of luck there will be some more nice weather this year and bring in some more custom

As Fekin so rightly said; it's just a case of self-employment!

Don't stress too much - you'll soon be wishing you were quieter again.

From my point of view it's either famine or feast, I've yet to strike a happy balance.

Use the quieter times to do some planning or simply get letters sent out to bathroom / kitchen fitters/ plumbers etc etc.

I think we all have the same feast and famine problems, luckily i have a few regulars who are gradually doing up their properties and are within reason prepared to wait for when I can fit them in.

Finally after 5 years of nagging have blocked of most of June to do a complete make over of my own kitchen, utility and hall - what's the betting once I get started the calls will come rolling in!

3k is brilliant. Grace's Dad hit the nail on the head. The quiet times are the times when you do your books. Work on your estimates etc. Clean out the van. Visit the tile shops further a field. The weather is awful, so would you rather be indoors or outside trying to wet cut a tile in the rain? Saying that, I'm off for a drive to visit some tile shops as I have not had a job for a month !!! Good luck.

You'll always have the idiots.
You're heading the right way. Keep going.
