Grumps do you find you take a lot of Silicon off with those tools? I use them myself but find the amount of Silicon wasted is phenominal is this normal or am I doing it wrong lol... I never seem to get as neat a finish with my fingers
Hi Tina, yes i find it can be wasteful to but I think I would be the same if I just used my finger! I think the real skill is learning exactly how thick the initial bead needs to be get good coverage witrhout being wasteful. Unfortunately I have not got there yet!

having said that I don't find Silicon that expensive so in money terms, not much cash is thrown away.

I only ever apply Silicon to a dry joint, never skirting over grouted joint. When applying Silicon into a dry joint, if the nozzle is cut just bigger than the joint width upon gentle application, you will get to see the excess Silicon start to gently ooze from that point, keep going applying gentle equal pressure until you have got to the end of the run. Spray with soapy water...lashings of it and then use wet finger to remove. Any Silicon that has squeezed up into a vertical joint can then be pushed back beyond the surface of the tile with a nail. Grout down the vertical joints after the Silicon has cured....job done.....Gaz

I use both, although I voted finger. I got the karl dahm tools which are good, but in real life they don't squeeze behind taps or work in corners too well!

I tend to use the tools and then smooth with a finger.

Lately though, I find that now I'm using the BAL Silicon, it is creamy enough (i.e. not stringy) to allow me to get a real neat clean bead without even touching it.
