You will get away with caulk in most rooms but would recommend silicon in bathrooms. The caulk attracts more mold to it than silicon. I have restored a few bathrooms where the caulk has been really bad with mold.

It was certainly no bigger than 3mm maybe just 2mm. Like i say i have only tried it once but might have another go as it would be a cheaper option than Silicon
