Fireplace tiling

At some point this summer I will be tiling a concrete block fireplace. My ? is to allow movement between the different materials (slate tile/concrete block) I am planning on mudding the wall with a stainless mesh attached to the block by means of mechnical fastners is this the best method? Also any one have any stories good or bad with using a natural slate in this application. It is an interior fireplace on a patio that is not temperature controlled untill needed. Also looking for ideas on material/trim piece to use on the jambs of the firebox. Thanks All

tony73, no dont have any pics have not figured that part out yet. It is 5ft wide 30inches deep and 12 ft tall rumsford style firebox. Built with 4 inch block veneer backed up with brick and a glazed tile flue liner.

hard to imagine with out drawing, sketch or at least pic. of wall where fireplace will be. I have fitted few or more fireplaces (limestone, granit, marble) and have restored few very old ones.

tony73, The fireplace is built as I described in my first reply. What I am asking is the method I described the best approach to a concrete block substrate, and if anyone had any stories good or bad as to using a natural slate tile in regards to the temperature changes. If I can get the camera to work will post a pic of what I currently have. Thanks
