Hi All,
I had been asked if I could retile an old firplace where some of the tiles had come off and after having a look at the job and finding out that some of the tiles are infact missing it will need a total retile job doing as dont think are likely to be able to match due to age, and will need all the old tiles removing
The back wall and hearth are tiled with the front edge sloping upward with a marble suround and mantle piece. There is about an inch (25mm to the younger members)gap between the tiles and suround so sould be able to to slip tile edge behind as dont fancy taking suround off the wall.
The tiles are 4"x4" (100mm 100mm would do ) with a semi mat finish in black.
I have read through old Threads regarding materials to use so am ok for that but I do have a few questions if any one can help.
(1) Has any one done something like this and what sort of time scale did it take???
(2) Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of ??
(3) A the tiles on the hearth have a rounded edge tiles o n the sides and front and 2 corners, does any one know of any where in the Leeds- Bradford area (west yorks) that stocks this type of tile or any company on the net.
Thanks in advance .
Richard

when i did it was 1 sq metre of tiles and took some of the wood from the sorround off when removing tiles charged him £130 including materials.takes around 4 hours to tile then grouting. Try and measure the top of the sorround where the fire is then the middle then the bottom as the 1 i did was narrower on the top and wider on the bottom all it means is u will have smaller cuts at the bottom
