you're welcome mate..unfortunatley in the time it took to write that essay you probably got most of it from the others!
I don't know much about tiling courses nowadays as I did an apprenticeship with a company years ago and got my papers that way. I had a couple of blokes come with me fresh from courses and they do seem to miss out some vital aspects, but prehaps this differs from course to course?
Anyway enjoy your holiday and good luck!

Thanks mate. It was a very good course (STC (formerly PTS)) but it is more aimed at standard ceramics/porcelain & focuses on doing things the traditional way & everyday tricky stuff (setting out properly, tiling without wet cutters, diamond set around windows etc) - rather than specialist stuff like mosaics (although common now)

Morning all.

On the mosaic border, If I fix them to some lengths of cement board, is there anyway of getting them completely level?

The wall tiles are 5mm thick, on a bed of 3mm (6mm trowel) = 8mm
The Mosaics are 3mm thick, on a bed of 2mm (4mm trowel, I assume) = 5mm.

I've seen a 4mm cement board which pushes it up to 9mm but then you've got to consider what to use sticking the board to the wall so so I'm back again with a 2mm+ difference?
