Hi , first slate floor on wed. just ordered a diamond blade (30966) for my nd 200. Jesus I hope thats the right blade. 11 sq m how long will it roughly take? 3-4 days. going on top of tiled substrate. All I have picked up is keep it clean as you go. seal twice before grouting, whats best product? I suppose the cutting is slow. tiles are 13 mm thick. Is it ok to grout the expansion joints or do they have to be silliconed? 3mm spacers ok?
Thanks Groucho

2 days should be enough,2 coats of impregnator and no need for expansion joints only a small area:) open joints to about 5mm or more if the tiles are uncalibrated

hi groucho mate. make sure you give the old floor tiles a good clean before tiling , use some sugar soap. use a flexible adhesive to get a good bond to old tiles. depending on what finish custmer wants , use lithofin stain stop for matt finish 2 coats before grouting and lithofin slate seal for a semi-gloss finish again 2 coats and for both finishes clean well after grouting with clean water. as for joints anywhere from 5mm to 10 mm .... because slate can be quite sizey...

always grade slate as it helps in a couple of ways the main one is starting with the thickest will help you to keep the surface flatter and that leaves the thinner one for the cuts and i use a grinder to cut slate as it is much faster (wet cut thinner narrow cuts)and yes clean seal seal clean seal getting the message have fun and enjoy slate is great

As the lads have said. In terms of spacers your better off not using spacers with slate (just in case you were intending to) just decide roughly what size gap you want between tiles and line up with eyes. Most slate tends to be uncalibrated so spacers won't be practical :) . Enjoy and post piccys.

thanks m8. glad to see your one of the bhoys, dont like the new away kit much.
