Out on the river Ayr on last day of the season & got a nice fish, pity it wasn't clean though.

Took a couple of days off work to de stress on the river.

Took a size 12 orange flamethrower.
Took me an hour to revive it before I got it swimming away.
Don't use the gaff much these days..

The forth & Tay are closest to me and both have had excellent late runs .

A 45lber was caught on the Tay the other week which as also very dark in appearance/been in for a while.

They had a 50lb off of Boleside on the Tweed through the week,
Another fish that had been in for a while.

my first season that I've drawn a blank, very few salmon this year

i had a few this season various rivers, fish the lomond system mainly, but its been poor this season. has the ayr got an extension our river finnished last week. how much is a season permit, was thinking about heading down there. mate was talking about the girvan i think dont know much about it

Doug, it's been a poor season up here on a lot of rivers.
I haven't been out much but speaking to a lot of fishers they are all saying the same thing.

I bought a day ticket for the top beat of the Ayr (Muirkirk) that's where I got this fish.
The Girvans a very good river, not very big but gets a lot of salmon.
I fished the Stinchar the day before but only saw 1 fish, I packed up early as the weather changed dramatically & the river ended up full of leaves.

I fish for trout on the rivers and its been a poor year aswell
Not sure why, maybe the cold start to the spring didnt help

saw that 50lb salmon on Border Lookaround yesterday,,,,jeez what a fish, heavily coloured and I was surprised that it wasn't a hen fish. Wonder how many winters it had at sea to get to that size?

They took scale samples Doug & I think it spent 2 years as a par then 3 winters at sea.
Must have been big when it 1st came back into the system.
I'm trying to get down the Etterick this weekend, they reckon 90% of the big tweed fish run up the Etterick.
A lot of big fish been taken the past few weeks.

i was looking at the tweed for a day.some of the beats look nice. some of the prices are a bit out of my league right enough.
do you ever fish the tay? good prices in feb and march
