Fixing tile trim when tiling

I often use tile trim, both plastic and metal, around window rebates, shelving, boxing in etc and like to 'fix it' in place first before tiling.

Does anyone have an effective way of fixing it in place? or are there techniques for fixing it in place as you tile?

I currently use a combination of screws and nails. I have found 'fixing' it in place using the tile adhesive (mainly BAL - Grip pre-mix) as you tile doesn't hold it in place true enough to create that nice measured distance around say a window rebate.

Tried using nail, and small screws in the past, but they never seemed to work for me, always used to get the screw or nail head too proud.
I use the tile adhesive and the tiles to keep the trim in place.:gettree:

...and when using a staple gun do you use a particular type and / or size of staple. Ie suitable for fixing trim to plaster rather than wood?

... and when using adhesive as you go do you guys fix at the same time both tiles butting up to the corner trim to ensure the trim is positioed correctly?

That's how I do it, have everything cut to size, prepared and fix the whole window reveal in one, trim and all.

Addy for me spread it on. Put tile trim on, then recover top of trim with addy

I usually nail them in place with wide head drywall nails as they are flush when set, but when I can't nail I use a tube of tub surround adhesive (pl 700) which is like a thick contact cement, and then a 1 inch chisel which I only use for rough work and so it is fairly blunt. It makes a good tool to smooth the metal into the adhesive and scrape away any excess that sticks up.
I have even used contact cement a time or 2 to frame a mirror and there was only drywall board to attach to.

normally fix it whilst tiling, but if i need to prefix it I use staple gun and then run a thin bed of addy down flange

Hi all, all the very best for "2009".......I have resorted to doublesided tape a few times but tend to trim as I go to hold things in place. Nine times out of ten I am slightly "trueing " window recesses anyway so the addy works well.

I normally slide them in as I go and once all the tiles are in place. However for external corners I will sometimes use 'No more Nails' or 'Sticks Like ****' Glue and hold in place with tape until set.
never tried staples, might be a go!!

This has been a problem for me.
On my first job at a friends bathroom, (which I'm still working on when I can), the biggest problem that I seem to have right now is the trim, so much so that I think I'll have to pull all the tiles off the wall that I've placed round the window recess because it looks crap. I didn't think about a staple gun or cutting the trim before sticking the tiles, just thought I'd do it as I go. The rapid set was drying before I had slid the trim into place and even then I was not completely happy with the cuts.

Is there any way out of this for me guys, do I really have to prize all the tiles off the wall and relay them in order to sort the trim out now that everything's dried?
