I was asked to look at a floor to be tiled just before christmas, so went and had a look and it turned out to be a floating floor!
The customer had, had two other local tilers look at the job and both off them told him it could be tiled strait onto as is :yikes::yikes::yikes:
So I told the customer what had to be done and ive just finished tiling it for him and now ive got his wetroom and kitchen floor to do as well

so how did you sort the floor out before you tiled it Steve? or is it a trade secret?
I just tiled strait on it (well the others said it would be ok :prrr:)
Firstly i checked to see how much deflection there was in the floor, in fact there wasn't much so imo it was suitable to tile.
I removed the skirtings to check on the clearence off the floor against the walls this was ok so i over boarded with 18mm wbp glued down and screwed at 150mm centres, tiled with 600x300 porcs with bal fastflex and grouted with bal wide joint with gt1 admix at 50/50 ratio.
installed skirting tiles and siliconed adjoining joint to floor tiles.

I Know there is a bit of taboo about floating floors but i have done alot of them(and never had a problem) and as long as there isnt too much deflection in the first place(and it is a well established floor) and you can remove this by overboarding and using the right addy etc then there shouldnt be a problem. However it would be better to remove and screed if this option is visable imo...(as theres nothing better then a solid floor)
