Floods in Queensland

My mate Steve AKA " Ozboz" is from Jimboomba Queensland, He is over here at the mo working with me. He has a wife and four children back in Oz. Hope they are all safe and well.

Ipswich river peaked today at 19.4 metres a bit under forcast top about 3000 homes under water in that area and still raining

It's been top our news agenda for a while now Jay, you just cant comprehend the scale of it, what are you authorities doing, where do you move that many people to?

ben watching it on the news,quite an unbeleivable situation for oz to be in,pray all those peeps are ok

they have set up evac centers on high ground but because they are shutting down power to certain areas the people who have stocked up on supplies (meat and frozen goods) cant keep their goods but it will be okay i hope

Kind of intelligent to build on a flood plain.....isn't it.
They have done it in Winnipeg and they get flooded out every once in a while. but they do live in the flood plain.
I think the words FLOOD-PLAIN are a sort of dead give away not to build there, yet people do.
They build by volcanoes and then wonder why they need to run away when the volcano burps.
People are strange animals.

weather is stranger its been raining up there since three weeks before chrissy and still is up to 180mm in an hour at some stages (just imagine being a bricky or roofer or even a concreter who hasnt been able to work)

they call it the sunshine coast

Apparently there were floods like it in 1976, or 74, can't quite remember what I read now....

It was a sad picture to see on the news this morning of a young family sat on the roof of their car as the torrent of the swollen river rushes past them, inches from their feet, the helicopter that took the picture had no winch so had to leave them there. they're now missing :mad2:

last big floods was in 1974 this ones bigger

good news looks like the rivers have peake slightly lower than 1974
bad news there expecting a king tide today

keep an eye on your news for the floating walkway
it has stopped raining up there at least

cant believe how bad this has got!!
i have a few mates that live in noosa and i dont know if thats been affected.
as mentioned by gisela, the last time this happened was 1974. i was totally unaware of that fact, i thought this was the first of its kind.
one thing the aussies have is a strong mentality and they will all pull together and get through it!! god bless the people who have lost loved ones and their homes/livelyhoods.
