Floor Boards

Hi All, I know timber floors have been covered alot. But I still have 1 question. I'm doing a bathroom floor and the girl doesn't want me to put the ply down as she is restricted to space. She wants the tiles laid onto the floorboards. That is no problem, but my question is do i need to put anything between the gaps of the floorboards.

you can if you like Silicon in between boards, this will help bind the boards together and help when they move......Gaz

you should really stress to her how important it is to have a solid substrate,the tiles will crack in time and my advice would be to make her see sense or she will be paying for the job to be done twice,because you will be back to rip it up.

I think shero will be using 2 part adhesive....wont you ?

you could tell her of the importance of having a waterproof substrate such as tile backer board wedi or something (6mm) not much height and bit more piece of mind.....

i would strongly advise you client that you use "no more ply-6mm" or dietra matting from schulter....... it removes any problems that tiling onto floor boards create and has a minimal height increase that you can hide with an l shaped trim or mushroom joint...

Spot on advice

If the customer does not want it doing properly then walk away.
There will be plenty of muppets out there who will do the job instead !!!

I will be using 2 part adhesive. I will let you know how I get on.

It is only 6mm she will be losing on the floor, not the end of the world. Or she can have you back re-grouting, lifting tiles etc.:mad2:

I favour tiler backerboards because as you say they are only 6m and you lose alot of height gain compared with ply , and you still have strength. :leaving:
