Floor from hell.

Just went to look at this floor. Real hatchet job. What to do. Never seen a new heated concrete area as bad as this 20 mm high points. God knows how they done the concrete then the builder says to customer it's ok the tilers use flexi adhesive. Really want to help them out. But can't guarantee work.

That longer crack looks like that's been done afterwards, as if heating pipes have been laid then filled in.

As I said previously then, they have been filled after the floor was laid with heating pipes etc...

Ye must of. Have done floors like this with membrane but not as bad as this one as there will be more than lateral movement

Leading threw to hallway and entrance all done in 9mm ply another problem.

Would it be possible to hardi the ply area then use insulation backer board on the other parts once u deal with the lumps and bumps by grinding or chipping them away then use ditra or dural over the whole lot ? Or is that stating the obvious ha

I was suggesting similar but plane floor remove ply replace with hardi cement boards on concrete then ditra the lot. But there's a 20mmlimit due to sliding doors to patio also tiled. You should see that put a 2.5 edge on it and I could stick my hand under.

There are some jobs that are just not worth doing.
You spend time estimating, pricing , recommending etc. then in the end they put vinyl down!
There is always a way, but it should have been sorted before the new kitchen went in.

Totally agree. They already have the 6x6 porc and desperate to tile. I'm thinking now just suggesting all areas cement boards fixed with a s2 then skipping the ditra and they would have to accept it being slightly higher at thresh. Concrete plane as much as possible.

That's just the sort of job I used to go and see and recommend Lino or Amtico.

You know it's going to go pear shaped if you tile it, then you know it becomes your problem.

Agree with John, some are just not worth the ballache.

if you feel you cannot guarantee the work don't do the job. As a specialist contractor you are lawfully bound to offer work that is fit for purpose. if it goes wrong it comes back to you regardless of disclaimers, lack of guarantee etc... RUN!!

John you say there's always a way. What way forward would you recommend for customer apart from not doing the job.

Andy you can't fix hardie on top of concrete, if you went that route it would need to be a thermal board..
I would walk from this job as said it could go pear shaped..
