floorboard onto concrete floor

doing a floor in a couple of weeks, the room is a L shape, going from wood to concrete, can i just board out the floorboard part and tile, or will i need a joint of some kind. the joint is 1.9m. any advice would be apreciated.:huh2:

Always use an expansion joint where the substrat changes.

cheers fekin, never had the pleasure of using one before, can you reckemend a type/make, and are they easy to install?

You can either buy premade expansion joints "which I have never used" or just make your own, wide groutline filled with Silicon.

cheers once again. would never of thought about using silicon in a month of sundays, i'll give it a whirl.

Just use Silicon the same colour as the grout...........this is known as a cold joint.........make sure you install it right over the break in the substrates.

And it will look neater if possible to start a full tile from either side of the joint then it is less noticeable.........

Where I work "power station" it was built in the early 70's, the entire boiler house floor is tiled in 20 x 20's, and it's a massive building, and in some areas on the basement floor the tiling is none stop for over 100 meters and not an expansion joint in sight, no grout lines either, all butted up and in general it's all still good, but areas around the mills that cause a lot of movement there's a lot of tenting going on.
