Frost Proof Tiles

Spoke to a sales assistant in Tile Giant today.

I was looking for suitable tiles for front door steps & i asked to make sure they were frost proof, I was told they only have to be porcelain as you wont get a manufacturer giving a guarantee for frost protection?

I dont know if im missing something here but i always thought that if a tile is for outdoors use then it must be frost proof.

What is the guidelines for outdoor tiling?

It should indicate on the packaging if they are frost proof....

Have a look at Products - Casalgrande Padana then the PDF. I would say most porcelain tiles are either frost resistant or frost proof. Some have frost proof on the back of the tile. Its all down to how much water they will absorve. <=0.10% is max and Impervious <= 0,5%

Decent manufacturer will give a guarantee.

I always thought that it stated on the packaging but i wasnt 100% sure.

I also know what some sales assistants are like & you take their word with a large pinch of salt.

I did an outside step in original style dust pressed.. they state they are ok for frost... 2 winters later some are spalling... what did original style say.. oh it is frost damage.. FFS..

So they washed their hands of blame....

most frost proof porcs etc will have the frost/snow flake symbol on the box or tile.
