Hi
I have bought glass tiles of size 600mm X 300mm from B & Q for my kitchen. It is called the Large format glass tiles. The area to be covered is around 5sqm.
A tiler friend of mine is laying it and we have encountered a problem with cutting the tiles around to accomodate electrical sockets. The glass tile chips off or the paint at the back of the tile starts to peel during cutting though he takes atmost care.

Can some one help me with a suggestion to cut the glass tiles. My tiler friend has tried all his sources and we have hit a brick wall with no options.?

thanks very much

you can now purchase glass cutting blades for wet cutters! never needed to though as mine seems to cut it no probs, the one thing i do though is mark the tile on reverse, cut and peel the paper before i cut it,someone showed me this and told me it helps when cutting, and as i've said, never had a problem with them!

You'll need a glass-specific cutting wheel. I bought one from B&Q for my Plasplugs Mastertiler - only about £15.
Rather than have diamonds within the blade, the diamonds are encrusted to the outer surface of the blade. With plenty of water, I have not had chipping like you mention. Maybe an idea also to score the paint/coating on the reverse of the tile prior to cutting.

now cutting is sorted out, make sure your tiler uses the correct adhesive for glass ! Preff white !! And to back butter the tiles slightly, before trowelling the adhesive onto the wall, so as to achieve a solid bed between the tile and the wall, otherwise you may see dark patches in the tiles, especially in areas where the the backing has chipped off during cutting !
