Hi..is there anyone at all that "has" worked with glass tiles before..? I saw my customer last night, and it turns out that i will also have to drill a hole in one of the tiles, to put a screw in and hold up the cooker hood..! Any tips on that one..? I know i need a diamond drill to cut the hole, but where do i get one..? I asked today, at Topps tiles, but they didn`t have a clue.. :-(

hi mate. some glass tiles will break ok in a dry cutter but there are some that won't these tend to be the 100mm ones and are about 10mm thick so use wet cutter on these , not all blades in wet cutters are suitable for glass either but rubi sell a blade specially designed for glass its called a CVG blade and comes in various sizes. Its worth bearing in mind that not all glass tiles are suitable for use in kitchens aswell exspecially near cookers as the heat from gas cookers can cause the glass to crack, best to use the thicker type glass for this that kind of installation. You will need to use a suitable adhesive for sticking them on, bal white star is ideal but you can also use flexible powder adhesive aswell, Glass tiles can not be nibbled as they just shatter, any fine adjustments just use wet cutter. Also use flexible grout but use a smooth textured( un-sanded ) one so as not to scratch the glass
As for drilling holes use porcelain type hole cutters not carbide grit ones as these will chip the glass badly. sorry reply is bit long winded but glass tiles are'nt as straight forward as ceramics to install.... hope this helps .. dave......

Many thanks for your posts, Dave and all..:) .. At the moment i am working for a double glazing firm, so brought home some 4mm glass to tryout on my Briccolina wet cutter..! That worked really well, allowing me to be able to cut out for switches. The cutter did leave a small amount of shelling of the glass, but the switch housing should cover that..:) ..

As for cutting the hole ? I did ring PTS about that today, and they said to use a normal masonry bit.. .. To be honest, i think i will be trying out the diamond cutter. Having said that, though, i guess one should try them all out, ya wont know until you do, eh.. ..LOL

Thanks for the advice about the adhesive and grout, Dave, i didn`t know that..!

Thanks all, i`ll let ya know how i get on.. ..
