glass tiles

just been reading some threads on glass tiles. got to fix some this week. tiles are from B&Q 10x10 im sure they have a kind of greyish back to them. If these tiles need epoxy going to cost a lot more to do the job. so whats best for the customer? whats mirror mate and how much? they want the tiles set in diamond (splashbacks kitchen) will this be acheivable with the cutting. Or will the corners keep chipping? If you use epoxy and spread on with a 4mm trowel will this show through? walls are painted white havnt done a tape test yet on them. do you need to prime before using epoxy? thanks

If you're using GLASS TILES and going to fit any service pipes or any fixtures and fitting through them then you need a set of diamond drills.

This glass tile shattered when a normal masonary bit was used on it.

This is a similar GLASS tile but drilled with PORSADRILL

Glass does look nice but can chip.

I'll let others explain the bits of your questions (we are only drilling experts!)

use bal mosaic fix or a similar product in white,these tiles can be cutt with a dry cutter or wet saw,i tend to cut the paper back with a knife where i'm going to cut and it helps shattering

Regards to cutting might try scoreing back of tile as well. using mosaic fix. tiles dont need epoxy so thats ok

I did some a while ago. I found that the surface on the back that gives them the colour (I think) scratches really easily. When I wet sawed them if there was any grit/chips on the wet saw surface then it scratched the back of them. These markes showed showed through when fixed (I removed them and put non scratched on).

Placing the glass tile on a piece of card then putting it through the saw solved this.

I used BAL mosiac fix and it was fine. They did want to slip a bit so spacers had to be used.

yes your right there ben tiler. ive got 4.5 sqm in diamond set with 12 sockets. what a pain in the axxx. like you said when cutting the back colour chips off. I redone a tile 5 times today to get it right. first time for me with glass good experiance. but will put on a extra days pay next time.
using stoneset fine grout tomorrow. looking forward to getting cut when doing sillicone :yikes:

Luckily at that point I'd started using a Silicon shaping tool. It was only luck that I wasn't using my finger as I wouldn't have considered the sharp edges, I would have cut the end of my finger off! :yikes:
