Gotta start somewhere!!!!

Hi to all in Forum. You know those small jobs, that just turn into a 'big' one, well that's why I'm here.

Before Christmas when the kitchen ceiling started dripping, I thought is it the shower trap? On investigation it wasn't, so what was it? Well the water was only dripping when the shower was on. With further scrutiny and glasses on I could see it was coming from the tiles allowing the ingress of water. OK I thought - regrout and all will be cured. No, no, no not that simple. The tiled shelf was saturated and the plywood backing sodden and rotten. Bear in mind, all the work had been carried out by a registered builder 6 years ago.
Any way I have taken back the tiles and I am now looking to replace the shelf with a marble shelf I had cut to fit for £50. All I have to do is get the right adhesives; get the right grout; and then get everything back together to fit perfectly. So I'm half way there thanks to the Tiler Forum.

i take it your re-using the tiles and its going back onto the new ply,if so you will need a flexi adhesive and grout!

Having read a couple of threads in the Forum yes I am going for Bal Easypoxy which will be as an adhesive and a grout. I will be trying to swop the Unibond (for the Bal) which I've discovered is not waterproof. The can dosent do what the label says - all a matter of uinterpretation on what is water proof and water resistant. You are right - it is an epoxy based flexi adhesive I require. Thanks

I would be an idea to re-do the shelf in hardibacker and then re-tile or bond the marble onto it :yes:
