Hi All,

I have a couple of questions regarding a star galaxy granite floor we will be installing soon I hope someone can please help em with :).

1)
Area to be covered is 10metres square and size of tile will be 600x600 but we have some choices with depth, 12mm, 15mm or 18mm. It is a domestic kitchen floor onto the concrete slab with Mapei Keraquick adehesive and Mapei ultracolour plus black grout. What depth of tile should we get?

2)
Cleaning and sealing
Prior to the tiler coming I will have the tiles, I think I should clean and seal them before he lays them. I have no idea what to use to clean them? I was then thinking of using Lithofin MN Stainstop??

Once laid i think I seal them again (along with the grout) with the same Lithofin MN stainstop?? Alos, will 1 litre be enough for all applications?

Thanks,

Paul.

On a concrete screed 12mm thick would be fine, 15mm would be better, 18mm would be overkill.

Do nothing to the tiles, if you feel a compulsion to clean them, then clean water and nothing else. The tiles need to be in their raw state when laid.

Star Galaxy is extremely dense, also a lot of it has been epoxy polished as it comes with a naturally pitted surface. (Ask the supplier if this is the case - they may know, they may not know).

As a result of it's density (and possible epoxy content) it doesn't soak up a great deal of sealant. MN stain stop will be fine, but be sure to put on two coats within 20 minutes of each other and remove all residue within the next 20 minutes, other wise you'll be polishing off wax for the next month.

The process is this:-

1. Tiler fits granite and allows to dry for at least overnight, preferably 24-48 hours.
2. Seal granite.
3. Grout Granite.

After grouting you can reseal if you want but it's not really necessary.

1 litre will do 10sq/m of galaxy, if it's soaking up more than that it's not galaxy!
