Grout additive for wet room use?

Hi there, I am creating a wet room en-suite bathroom and and I have been advised to add an additive to the grout when grouting the wet-room tray. I suppose it is meant to make the grout more durable/waterproof? I haven't heard of a product like this and just wanted to know if any of you had and if you think I should go for one and if it would be helpful? Many thanks, Sel

grouts arn,t water proof there water resistant, apart from prob epoxy , mapei ultra would be fine

Hi there yes I used the Bal tanking system and a Marmarox (I think it is called) wet room shower tray former. Hope that's good enough?

I will check out epoxy and the Mepei Ultra (which I guess is a grout). Is there any advantages to using a tiled sealer after grouting as well? I do like to over engineer things especially when it's for myself thx.

Oh and this was advised from a tiler though not directly to me. Though now I wonder if his advise got lost in translation and perhaps they were really advising to seal the tiles and grout with one of those post tiling sealers? Any thoughts on that or any I just driving myself mad here?

A sealer will depend on what tiles you are useing?

Just be warned that epoxy is a different animal to cement based grout, might be worth getting some1 who has used it before if you go down that road.

he may have been suggesting epoxy 2 part grout which is 2 parts mixes *** opposed to a cement based grout which takes water

what kind of tiles are you installing as wel i forgot to ask,porous ones such as limestone etc will need sealed first so the grout doesnt bleed into them

Hi I am installing porceline tiles. After the comments I have been receiving I think I will take my chances. Having done the tanking and using the wet room shower tray former I am hoping that will be enough.

It certainly doesn't seem to be the norm to use epoxy grout plus I have gone for limestone grout so that would be difficult to match I imagine.

The tile supplier tells me the tiles I have gone for won't need sealing but I have also read about some tests which I can do to see if they need sealing such as leaving water on an offcut tile as well as oil and even hot oil to sees if they leave marks.
