Hi folks,

I have a quick question. I did kitchen last december with materials supplied by a kitchen fitting company. I have just also tiled the bathroom of the same house, both lovely jobs, even if i say so myself, the customers liked it enough to find me privately to do their bathroom.

However a small problem has arisen with the grouting in the kitchen. The grout is going the colour of nicoteen stained walls. The grout was applied properly, not over whisked, in fact i mixed it by hand, and applied it correctly as I always do, clean water, clean bucket, and washed ity down with my brand new washboy. In other words there was no dye or impurity of any kind near my pristene grout.

The yellow coming through the grout is in patches all over the big kitchen, no where near the cooker, so its not cooking, I have been tiling quite a while now, and done loads of jobs and I have never had this problem before.

I used white bal wall grout, and did the job in one go, before profiling and washing down. My customer is a little concerned, as I would be.

Does anyone have an idea what this staining might be? I suggested that the adhesive and or grout might be "out of date" or old, a bit of a weak explanation i know, but the only conclusion i could come up with on the fly. I already mentioned that the grout, tiles and adhesive were supplied by someone else.

If no one has a possible explanation, can someone offer me a cleaning solution to pass on to my client. distilled vinegar doesnt work, neither does lemon juice. I suggested a weak bleach solution, other than that I am befuddled. I would like to solve it for them as I have the opportunity to do 2 more floors and another kitchen and bathroom for them.

(obviously my definition of quick is relative ;))...

Thanks in advance
