Grout problem

Hi all,

Mixed up some grout yesterday (white) and after mixing it was slightly off white, greyish, it was going onto a patch-up job approx 2sqm, tiles are white and it would have been noticable (well to me at least) so had to scrap job and am going back later on today.

Mixed it in what I assumed was a clean bucket, a fairly new black bucket. Also used a pretty new bucket trowel to mix up grout...

Any ideas to what caused the miscolouring? contamination from bucket? trowel? or dodgy grout?

Miscoloring occured before I started applying to wall so I can count adhesive out.

Cheers

Hi mate,

I think sometimes you can get patchy colour grout if you don`t shake the bag prior to use but if all the grout is the same colour and just "off-white" i can only think it must be either a naff batch or it got contaminated somewhere along the line

Also some makes of grout are off white when mixed and then dry white......what make was it..?..

Agreed with the first.

Second question is to answer: if you took a grout for wide joints (lets say from 3 mm up to 12 mm), these normally contain sand as filling material and which is of course not pure white. Cheers, Martin
