grout removal tools

hi i have been looking at a tool for raking out grout ,floor and walls .just wondered if the fein is as good as they say,or if there are tools just as good, thanx

From what I have heard the Fein is probably the best tool for grout raking, though there are other tools on the market that do the same thing maybe at a lower cost, people do tend to recommend the Fein.

Plain ol grout rake is a hell of a lot cheaper, but i guess it depends how much needs raking hehe!

the bosch 180e is a multitool like the fein, but much cheaper. grout removal is always a pain what ever you use

hi thanx for your advice the biggest reason i wanted a grout removal tool is i have 6 inch tiles to replace in a commercial kitchen floor but i know i will end up breaking 10 to get one out .thought about running a grinder through the grout joints but i dont think the chef would like the dust :incazzato:

Fein for me. I tend to just do small re-grouts with it. ie repairing a cracked tile or replacing mouldy/discloured grout. I wouldnt consider a full bathroom re-grout, too much of a pain for me to bother with, id recommend re-tiling it!
Tip for grout removal on walls, i hold the fein with one hand (make sure i havnt been on the bottle the night before) and a my hoover hose in the other, sucks up the dust at source. Mucunk:h tidier and saves time cleaning up after.

Read your suggestion that the bosch 180e si similar to the Fein (but much cheaper) - are there suitable diamind discs in the Bosch range (or is it possible to use Fein discs in the Bosch).

I think the old style fein blades fit the bosch, if not bosch do a carbide blade.

We use a small angle grinder with a vacuum taped to it, the narrow aperture of the crevice nozzle increases the suction and catches most of the dust.

Hi there..
I hope this forum still working. The thing is, I need to rake out approx 3sqm 4x4 tiles in a bathroom with a grout thickness of 2 mm. The thing is that, this job is just a small addition to other jobs, so I dont know which is the most efficient way to do it quick, and how much I can charge for it at all. If the job is very fast I may consider to buy a multitool, but I dont know if it worth it at all. Any answer or advice would be appretiated.. Thanks...

It will be faster with a Multitool but cheaper to do by hand for such a small area.

Thank you for your answer. I dont really like to ask about prices, but I'm quiet new in the tiling business and I usually do new bathrooms. How much could I charge for such a small, but time consuming job? Or is there a rate for raking out at all?
