this might sound stupid but, can you tile straight onto a hardebacker board on a wall. or does it need plastering or sealing ect.:8:

Sure can tile on it, check with ur adhesive tho it may need to be primed.

just make sure it's fixed to the floor or wall as per the regs

Straight onto it, if its in a wet area i tank the joins with scrim tape and adhesive.

Before i tile onto it i give it a quick wipe over with a damp sponge to make sure there is no dust etc on the face of the board

Use cement based (bagged) adhesive mate straight onto the boards unless you're tanking first

Nice one Paul, I always tell people this as well, 'cos inhaling a lot of the dust can cause silicosis.

No priming required, just a wipe with a damp sponge if dusty..

im fitting this onto studwork around bath area ok been looking at the h/b site it stated that roofing felt to be fixed before h/b is fixed .is this the norm

i have plenty of the lightweight roofing breathable membrane , will this be ok im not tanking the boards

Yes! Make sure its the 12mm boards,well supported, and wiped with a damp sponge, Tape all the joints.
