Hardiebacker on ply, what adhesive

I am putting 6mm Hardiebacker on a ply deck.
Installation intructions from the PDF on "www.jameshardie.co.uk" states that for installation onto a subfloor "Apply a gap filling bed of non-flexible tile adhesive to the subfloorusing a 6mm notched trowel."

I had intended to use an "S1" adhesive throughout but reading this has left me in a dilemma?

What do others use/advise in this cenario??

Should a different addy be used under and over the Hardie??

As long as the floor is solid and deflection free!

There was a discussion on this very subject a few weeks ago, although hardie say to use an unmodified adhesive, I think SPF is the way forward.

Id go for flexible just my preference.

I was told today in CTD that BAL will not guaranty any of there adhesives apart from 2 part fast flex on to 6mm HB, and at over £50.00 a bag I think it is out of the game

I believe BAL require an over-board of 10mm Hardie or the old 15mm min WBP ply. Personally I'm happy to use 6mm Hardie so long as the sub floor is satisfactory.

I just don't understand when Hardie state a non flex addy should be used.
I know the adhesive is there to fill voids but when going over a wood floor you are always going to have a bit of flex, even if it is minimal there's still going to be slight movement.
Try ripping Hardie back up & see how the adhesive sticks to it.
I think the boards would stay put even if they aren't screwed down.
Always glue & screw incase someone reads this wrong.
