hardiebacker tips and hints .......

.......... if all goes well i am going to start putting this up tomorrow , i have got the 6mm stuff as i am only tiling between top and bottom kitchen units , due to the walls there is going to be a mix and match of mechanical fixings ( proper hardiebacker screws ) and some form of adhesive ( what to use ) , as for cutting the board , what are the best tools to use ?? , think thats it , over to you guys

theres a backerboard scribe you can buy for around a fiver from the various tile shops. scribe hard a couple of times and snap the board..you can use angle grinders but they'll be dusty and i wouldnt fancy standing out side in this weather ..

jigsaw or handsaw and good for cuts round sockets etc

I use the hardiebacker scribe for long cuts on 6mm and for any shapes or shorter cuts i have a jigsaw tile blade for ceramic that works great

Straight cuts = score n snap tool
Anything else = handsaw/jigsaw
This stuff eats blades though.

The scribe makes like a hell of a lot easier for long straight cuts. I use a hand saw or jig saw for right angled cuts and an old pair of tile pinchers for fiddly bits.

am i ok using pinkgrip as an adhesive between the backerboard and plaster / plasterboard ?
