I would be tempted to take them up and lay a new substrate! If the tiles are in reasonable condition you can sell them very quickly to restoration shops. The substrate under Victorian tiles tends to be lime mortar based or just earth without any form of DPM. If you overlay with Natural stone you may cause problems with Efflorescence. Just my opinion.

I have never used Durabase CI Mat so I can't comment on it. I only comment on products that I have physically used in other words tried and tested. Wetdecs solution of Ditra matting is perfect as well. I have used rolls and rolls of the stuff and i think its a fantastic product. When I was fixing I used to try and persuade all my clients to use ditra. A fabulous product that made my life easy.

So! sorry to be long winded but "Yes Wetdecs answer makes sense and a lot less work of course". I think I saw Durabase at the KBB show thats if it was the product I think it is a decoupling membrane mat in yellow?

Why would they want to tile over beautiful victorian tiles anyway unless they really have had it and look terrible! Why not pay to get them restored if possible - sacrilidge!!!!

Well they are my thoughts as well Especially as its what I do for a living but as they say "There's nowt queerer than folk"

Firstly I'd ask them "are you mad?" Then I would be seriously tempted to do all that remedial work in exchange for the tiles! How can you want to cover victorian tiles up? I'd be gutted if I was asked to do that

I wouldn't do it for nothing they obviously have no idea what they are worth or they wouldn't be asking someone to cover them
