Help and advice needed

Hello there,

This is my first post so go easy on me! Right in the next couple of weeks I'm going to be tiling the floors in my bathroom and kitchen/hallway in my new house. My question is regarding adhesive and prep.

In the bathroom I'm laying a polished porcelain and using a Hardibacker board over the woodchip subfloor but I'm unsure which adhesive to get, is there one I can use to bed the backer board and the tiles or do I need different ones?

Secondly the kitchen/hallway i'm once again laying a polished porcelain floor tile on to the new concrete subfloor, do I use the same adhesive for this as the bathroom or do I need something all together different?

shuff you need flexible bagged addy you can use both addys for both rooms bed the boards down with it in the bathroom and screw them as well 6 inch centres

Thanks for the speedy reply, makes life easier being able to use one adhesive! What about prepping the concrete?
I'm going to be getting the majority of my stuff from Jewsons as a friend is a manager of a depot and lets me have stuff at cost.
Do you know what adhesives Jewsons stock and if so are they any good?

yep, a single part flexi fits all in this case, how's your speed and would you feel comfy using rapid set spf?

Done a quick Jewsons search and only found tubbed wall gear

I'll have to investigate that, I know he's just had a tile showroom built at his branch, as for speed, I'm probably better off with standard setting, as we're not moving in till tiling and carpets are done it wont be a problem keeping people off it.

as doug says you have to be fast with the spf as well as neat if you have never used this product before it could prove to be expensive because the addy goes off quickly

spf being single part flex? could someone point me in the right direction as to what I need as there seems to be many different types for many different applications

yes its a single part flex flexible addy contains porcelbond which you require to fix porcelain

Sorry to drag up this thread but I might aswel keep all the advice in one place!
My question is regarding the cement backer board, this may sound obvious but do you guys just use a stanley knife to score it or is there a purpose made tool?

Ben - I think you will find Jewsons stock Webber adhesives (or can get them as they are part of St Gobain) and they do a slow set you may find suitable.
They sell a scribe for the 6mm backer boards but you may find cutting it outside with an angle grinder easier!

Thanks for the advice John, I ended up buying Mapei Keraflex Maxi from Tile HQ as that's where I got my tiles from.
I've got grinders coming out of my ears at work so I might just grab one and swop the blade for this job.

Wear a suitible dust mask if your cutting with a grinder on cement boards, so much rubbish to breath in.
