Help!! - octagon floor tiles

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Ive laid plenty of floors with this problem and always used Ditra and I have never had one problem after 42 years in the trade I think I know what I am doing

I never said you didn't I'm just saying that Ditra isn't a substitute for an expansion joint. There is also the possibility of deflection across this joint, an expansion joint will help absorb this, Ditra won't.

Its not so much about it being there for expansion purposes but more a case of it coping with movement between the two substrates better that Ditra.

Well all I can say, is you do it your way and I will do my way which has been tried and tested,I can see your point on expansion I would do it different in the joint was a lot longer but if its a small length say the width of the door then I would not worry to much sometimes you have leave the rule book at home

Hi I laid floor, wasn't sure on how to do an expansion joint and didn't really see it a nessecity as there isn't a door there, just an opening. looks nice and thank you for help.
