help please, tiling floating chipboard

i need to tile a chipboard floor (floating) there is movement at the joints. 3/5 mm in places. can i use a 2 part flexi on this? will i need to ply the floor? cust is worried about a step into the other room. cheers Ben

My Advise mate is to steer clear if there is that much movement/deflection...these type of floors are just laid onto polystyrene bases upon sand and will cause you nowt but a nightmare...i have known them that bad that even 22mm ply hasn't stabilised them......If and i mean If they are solid enough and over-boarded then you can use BAL fastflex and bal wide joint grout with GT1 admix......but me personally i never touch them........

I would say the floor is not suitable myself and steer clear.

And even more reason not to tile it. How embarrassing for your mates floor to crack.

i have recently refused to tile 3 different floating floors and one was a mate....can be more trouble than it's worth..Mark.

Hi mate, I guess if you do choose to tile the floor how about "no more ply " Its only 6mm thick but has the strength of 18 mm ply so floor height issue not as bad Fully water proof. just glue and screw. Pricing, I used it for a 10 sqm floor it cost £170 with glue , screws, ply. could be worth a shout. Also there is a bagged addy specialy made for floating floors at £48 a bag. Whats it like dont know never used it.
