Help please Wolverhampton

Hi I'm Mark, I'm twenty nine years old from Wolverhampton, my current job is a multi drop delivery driver and warehouse staff. I'm looking for a bit of a career change before I start to get too old...ya know, like 30! :lol: and I wouldn't mind trying my hand at tiling. Question is though, is it best to get started doing some courses, etc? Or just to jump straight on the band wagon as some form of tilers mate/apprentice? If courses are the best way to go what type of course? What are employers in the trade looking for with regards to qualifications/experience? If it's jumping straight in feet first what is the best course of action to finding a tiler who is looking to employ? Is it best to go with a large company or keep it on a smaller scale; someone who is possibly self employed? Any advice that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome....personally I would do a course and stick to family and friends but keep your job at the moment, many good tradesmen are finding it tough out there at the moment.

You would need to stick domestic work, site work would need an nvq 2 and a health and safety test before walking on site...good luck in what ever route you choose.

Welcome along to TF, good advice above. Courses are a good introduction into the trade but, hands on experience is essential to really learn the ins and outs of the job.

a training course will teach you the basics , keep your present job, and offer your services at the weekends to a pro tiler for free, some one may take you on , might even give you a few bob if you catch on quick, i know its a sacrifice but it might get you in there , and on your way to a new career , good luck

Hi and welcome, as already said it is hard out there at the moment for well established tilers, start slowly keeping your current job, do a course and then test the waters, oh and don't give up the day job.
