CLAYS TILES

sorry thats a wrong title but this is wot i was meant to say....................

i've had a call today, from a kitchen/bathroom company.
he's basically asking me to do his tiling as the bloke he has at the moment is leaving due to illness.
my question is wot would i be charging? it could lead to loadsa work if price is right! i don't want to go in with usual price quote due to it leading onto more work!
:stupid: help.................................

- ask outright what the other guy's rates were. If you're more expensive, say so.
He'll either laugh in your face (in which case you're probly better not involved) or agree to discuss. On the other hand, you may be cheaper. Either way; ask questions before commiting to a price.

Why did he call you? Random call or has he had a recommendation / heard of your reputation?

I had a similar call this week; Property Developer - his tiler is moving abroad and he needs a reliable tiler to sort 2 shower areas urgently but more work in the pipeline. I had a couple of free days this week due to jobs being postponed so said I could help, but charged my usual price. He was impressed with my work and attitude and has already offered 2 more travertine bathrooms.

My advice is to stick to your guns and charge your usual day rate 'cos your reputation will win you further business anyway.

Good luck:grin:

i would charge 20-25 pm as it would lead to more work however be aware that working for bathroom/ kitchen companys you need to discuss more than just money.

-ask exactly what your duties will be., ie, who does the siliconing and prep work.

- if someone else is doing the prep work (which is often the case) will they leave a decent substraight? ,DO NOT LET THEM RIP THE ****.

Good luck.
