Well guys, half the bathroom complete and you can almost hang from the tiles.....very weird the tiles not sticking to the adhesive screed on the wall and yet when adhesive applied to the tile then stuck to the wall no problems??????

not weird, just either your adhesive was mixed too dry or had skinned over before you applied the tile.

Give it time and they will all fall off. Grey Cement based adhesives and plaster board or plaster dont go together unless you prime them.

Mmm i'll be honest i prime both plasterboard and plaster these days.
I still think you may have an issue and thats because you havn't troweled the adhesive onto the wall. This needs to be done to create a mechanical key, which also explains why back buttering works so well.
So no primer and no mechanical key is asking for trouble. Plu using Unibond, but thats another matter......

Yes but the guy is a diy sometimes I would prime plaster board some times It depends what I am doing every job is taken on its own merit but you don't have to so there is no need to give him grief just help IMO I am sure you and most of the guys on here would agree :8:

No but a lot of tilers would also say you need to prime plasterboard I thought the idea of this forum was to encourage and help the less knowledgeable the guy is not a tiler and do you think you could be wrong about the primer and a little aggressive with him

I dont feel i was being aggressive, Pj, just get very frustrated when guys dont read the instructions and then im more frustrated when the product is blamed when its used incorrectly and then I RANT AND RANT!

Just to add here , Pete is correct.

Priming plasterboard is not a necessity as the adhesive is not in direct contact with the gypsum core.

It does not hurt to prime as it can extend the open time as moisture isn't sucked by the paper and IMHO , this is probs the cause of the first failure.

Moisture sucked by the paper and tile biscuit , so back skimming would have helped with the best contact.

Discount tiles ..... Always read your replies before you hit the enter key and think if it is worded without causing offence. We all like a happy forum.

Will think more Dave when i press the dreaded enter key :yikes:. im still right about gypsum products a grey cement. Make some calls monday mate and u will have the same answer.

It's not the colour of the adhesive , it is Portland cement and direct contact with a gypsum material and the moisture present as the adhesive sets that can cause a reaction known as etterignite.

As for making calls lol lol. You can get conflicting advise from 10 different comps , they never sing the same tune. IMHO.

So anyone reading this, be safe and prime if you are in doubt.
