I've introduced myself in the thread which was sent to my inbox already so this will be my official post.
I'm 24, from Portsmouth UK & currently a Groundworker. I'm looking for a career change & a possible business seed to water
I don't want to take years out in college doing one day a week as I feel I'm just to old for it....but I am wanting to be professionally certified in the Tiling trade with City & Guilds/NVQ's & have heard you can do short courses, get site experience then come & get City & Guilds assessed to be granted your CSCS competance card.
So really I want the fast track option into the industry but without cutting corners...or wasting tiles!
I have had a look @ this particular course:
www.tilingschool.com - Tiling Courses Why Train with us ?
And wanted peoples thoughts on if theres any truth in it, needing 8 weeks instead of 6 & them being the 'best' e.t.c
Any suggestions for trusted schools near me would help (Portsmouth, South of the UK) & general pricing guides on how much i'll need to expect to spend on these courses & if people think there even any good..
I'm looking ultimately @ the end of the training to be a Sub Contractor ( I have site experience & would like to think I know how it works 'on site ) working on price jobs & the odd domestic job that comes along.
I have a friend whose done tiling but isn't qualified but has all the tools & more experience than me who is willing to work as a 2 man band...just would like to know the best way to get work 'On sites' as tilers, tips would be gladly recieved!
Then possibly, after gaining enough experience, look into more specialist areas of tiling ( Could someone give me some info on the more prestigious areas of work in tiling, I hear cutting marble is sought after if your good... ).
Thanks in advance people!!
