Hi all DIY enthusiast - problem using Unibond Tile on Wooden Floors

Tiling a bathroom floor direct to 18mm ply using Unibond Tile on Wooden Floors - bagged type which you mix. Mixed small batches which I could use in the 30 mins advised on the product. Found it to be really hard to work with. Spread on floor but hard to get to stick. Laid dozen tiles - after three hours was ready to grout - again as per product instructions. Found tiles had not stuck and was able to lift most of them with ease. Very little adhesive stuck to tiles - mostly clean. Adhesive had stuck to floor but was able to scrape it off easily and was in a dry powder form. Where did I go wrong?

what tiles are they

Ceramic tiles 33cm square with a fairly smooth back.

the backs could have been dusty

welcome to the forum, apart from being an addy we don't recommend, addy could be too dry, but with mike, on back skimming. eliminates dusty tiles and gives a good surface for the 'ploughed', addy. Did you use a floor trowel? (10mm rad)

10mm trowel. Would agree with the comment about being too dry. Mixed as per instructions but thought mix very stiff and difficult to spread.

I would advise using a cement based adhesive with a longer pot life (so it doesn't go off too quick)

Can you rescue the tiles?

Yes tiles all lifted and cleaned of the little adhesive that stuck. Addy scraped off floor. Guess I will look for some Bal.

I'm with Mark on this, the adhesive you used is not one many pro tilers rate. Mapei are tried and tested. Good luck Just my opinion.

Did you prime the ply before applying the adhesive?
