Hi, everyone
I'm new to this site and if possible would like some help and advice from you all. I've a large tiling job to price up in an open plan kitchen/dining room, living area approx. 56 sq. metres (7m x 8m). The dining area has wet under floor heating and is covered by concrete (4m x 7m). Then at the same level it runs into the kitchen area which also has wet under floor heating (suspended floor) with 1” plywood on top, it has been screwed down onto the joists which are 400mm apart. I am concerned that the plywood has not been screwed down every 4”; the customer wants expensive Jerusalem marble tiles lying on top. I am concerned about the 2 different floor types wood to concrete. What should I do? Any help and advice would be welcome. Thank you.

Welcome Paul,
this sounds like a job for ditra matting IMO.
it would protect the whole 56m2 of stone really well and if it was my floor i'd pay the extra for it.

i would use ditra on this job also,split it between the 2 different surfaces and use an expansion joint at this point also,this can be done with silicone to match the grout if need be

I would walk away, if you do it without proper prep it will fail and come back to you (duty of care etc) better to lose a job now, than risk the cost of replacing the floor later :welcome:

let some other person screw it up if the customer doesn't want the job done right,if they can afford these tiles then they can afford for the job to be done correctly!

As per everyone else, decoupler and expansion joint.
I had a similar issue recently, but when I reminded the client how much they had paid for the tiles, and the fact that I would not do the job any other way, they soon came round and agreed the extra cost (which is nothing when you compare it to having to do the floor again once it has failed).

OK.. Use this as a cold joint and then start a full tile from this point.. then no probs with deflection etc.
