Hi everyone. I cant get off this forum its really helpful. Just need a bit of a more direct answer for what i need to know reallly.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Ryan and I'm 20 years old. Currently working nights at the moment (Hence my first post being at 2:00am!). Want to get into tiling as soon as possible really, wish i had got into it straight from school.

My question or query as it might be is, the PTS course comes very well recommended and I have read the brochure and all looks good and well. The only thing is about the course (4 weeks) is that it seems to aim you towards setting up your own business. But the thing is i'm not sure that is what I would want to do straight away. I'd prefer to work for somebody to get some practical experience. The idea of setting up a business after only 4 weeks of training seems a bit scary!

Any feedback would be great. Sorry if i've bored you.

you can set your business up Ryan but only run it as much as you want to, part time/weekends/frineds work etc.

Slow and steady mate, dont try and run b4 you can walk if you dont want to.

I have to say i did tho and im still running so if i can do it.....

Or you could get in touch with your local tiling contractors/builders etc and see if they can set you on your way.

Good luck.

Cheers thanks for that. Just a bit daunting setting up your own business when you have only been on the tiling scene two minutes having done a 4 week course. I'm sure I'll get all the help and answers I need. Thanks again Holo

No doubt you can sit out of the sections that dont interest you and carry on training (but ask)
Even If youre not setting up youre own business straight away its still a good idea to listen in on that part as it may come in handy should you change your mind and start to do a few little private jobs as it should cover areas such as taxation insurance etc.

Good luck

The business start up at PTS is very basic. If you don't want to do it then ask to miss that part and use the time for practise. You can alwasy get good business start up advice from your localk business link if you need it (or there is loads here on the forums). The second 2 weeks of the course gives much more practise time and seems to bring the first 2 weeks into perspective more. I found it essential for my requirements.

Oh! welcome to the forums.

You can get business start up info FREE from the inland revenue (seminars) and from your business banking manager. Also make good use of your accountant, as they will guide you the best way to go.

You shouldn't have to pay for hours of lectures you can get for free.

Also, make sure the training you take part in gives ACCREDITED qualifications and not just some made up 'in house' certificate that aint worth nothing. :)
