Hi everyone , I'm looking for a little advice

I have a tiler in and he is replacing tiles in the bathroom, but he appears to be tiling over large cracks, the top of the tile part is ok and so is the bottom, it appears to be the middle of the tile the cracks are behind , I don't want to tell him how to do his job, but I'm worried. ,I would have thought the wall would need to be prepared, help

It's a travertine tile it's not on the side of the wash hand basin, not sure of the adhesive used the size is approxi 305 mm x 305mm
