Thanks for your response timeless john, my background with stone is being a fitter for Fired Earth, during the 2 years I worked with porcelain, slate, limestone & travertine. I took tech help from there tech dept directly, I found them really helpful & I learned a lot from them. Never had a balls up yet, became a fitter they could trust would do top notch jobs & could name my price sometimes double the price of the next man, giving myself time to get it right. My confidence in doing a 1st class job is still there along with a healthy respect that in this trade check every detail & assume nothing. But after 5 years out of the country & out of the trade my finger is not on the pulse at all regarding how the market has faired during this time especially in Wales. I'll find this out for myself in the fullness of time & perhaps later on in the Tilers Arms. The tech info here is really great, & the attitude in valuing the trade here is really refreshing. We could done with something like this for the carpet industry in the 80's, before it was ambushed by d-i-yers, & devalued the majority of the industry.

Thanks again for your comment.

:welcome:

I'm a DIYer and I don't think I've devalued the tiling industry. In fact, I now value the professionals more highly as I know what a difficult and sometimes thankless job it can be.

Hope you stick around and become part of the community :)

It wasn't a pop at DIYers, I just saw 1st hand how large warehouse stores took on carpet fitters with 1 weeks training & were happy with shoddy work from them, after I'd worked a 4 year flooring apprenticeship, that wasn't valued by many. :mad2: But that's history... Onwards & upwards:smilewinkgrin:
