Now Then lads, hello for a start off,. Did my training at NETT(superb informative coarse) in feb07, thanks to my employer of 8 years making me redundant, tinkerd with the tiling before but only for myself, friends and familly anyway just gone self employed tiller, my first job i,ve landed self employed is something i,ve never attempted tiling, a 1st floor balconey. Went to see job on tuesday and doing the job on monday. The balcony already has tiles in place only small 6inch sq but these have been painted quite a few times by the look of em, so thought would give em agood scraping then seal em with BAL APD do you think that would do the job, also the customer said he would like the wate to run off onto the roof next to/below the balcony. How much run would i need to put on the new tiles and besides using a spirit level any tips on this would be appreciated. Tiles are 500*500 porcelaine by the way.

Normal is 1:600 to get water to run. Hope this helps

Once you get them tiles clean of paint..i would use an uncoupling membrane to isolate those tiles from the new ones...there are a lot of joints in the first installation and you don't want any stress to transfer to the new installation.............Use flexible products for your project.......If the tiles are glazed then you would be better off using fastflex to stick the membrane down( i use Ditra) then normal flexi on top of that...........this should give your customer a long lasting newly tiled balcony.........and as kev has stated you need very little fall for the water to run off.........

good luck.......
