Hi, I'm Craig. I've been searching for a future vocation for some time now and have until 2009 before my current job ends. I've become very interested in tiling and would like to get qualified.
I'll be living in Kentucky, USA until July 09. I don't want to waste time in the US and believe it will be possible to obtain some skills in the coming months. I would appreciate any advice on the following: Are US qualifications recognised in the UK and which qualifications/organisations should I aim for? Also, are there any training schools in the Kentucky area?
A very useful forum, thank you.

I just did a quick search and found the following sites:-

Tile Setting And Masonry Schools in Kentucky - http://www.edref.com/college-degrees/building-trade-and-construction/tile-setting-and-masonry/kentucky

broken link removed

and [DLMURL="http://education-portal.com/become_a_tile_setter.html"]Become a Tile Setter | Education and Career Roadmap - http://education-portal.com/become_a_tile_setter.html[/DLMURL]

And I've also asked on the JB forums (US Tile Forum) too: Tiling / Tile 'School' in Kentucky? - Ceramic Tile Advice Forums - John Bridge Ceramic Tile - http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=617581 and although it's a couple of hundred miles away from you they said to recommend the CTEF (Professional Carpet Tile Cleaning - http://www.tileschool.org/) which seems to be a brilliant outfit and well liked in the tile industry in the US.

Dan's right Craig. I live in Tennessee, about 35 miles south of the Kentucky border. Besides finding a decent installer to work with as a helper, your best bet for individualized hands on training will be CTEF. It isn't that far away, maybe 4-7 hours depending on your location, route, and driving habits. Hope you enjoy your time over here and that you find what your looking for.
