High Ceilings

Help please... I have seen similar threads but cant find them now (not moaning about the swish new look here, so dont panic!)

Have a bathroom to do in a few weeks with ceiling height just shy of 3m. How do I get up there above the bath and boxing in, without using a trampoline? I have a small step and also a set of 6' step ladders, but dont want to use ladder and then fall flat on my face as I stretch across bath.

Any ideas that dont involve hiring tressels from TP or similar???

How about removing the tub first? Otherwise you can try covering the tub with a protective plastic covering. Then put a piece of plasterboard in the bottom, and a plank or something on top of that, after which you simply put the front legs of you step ladder on it. The plank distributes the weight onto the plasterboard, which in turn distributes the weight even more. The protective sheet should prevent scratching.

The best solution would be to remove the tub until the wall is tiled.

I may be wrong here Chris but you might find that there are legal health and safety issues with heights in excess of 2.5m or something like that. You may need to get a "proper" platform if you are working that high, certainly you might have problems with your insurance if you have problems.

Check out the regs first before continuing.

Wouldn't it be logical if that applies to the height you're standing on? I mean, if the walls are 3m, that's what, about half a metre higher than standard ceiling height? f you're tiling a 3m high wall, your feet would still be at something like 1-1.5m.

Thats how I will explain it too, If anything happens!!!

A bath stands at roughly 0.5 mtr high and standing on that is not high enough to reach the extra 2.5 mtr.....you will need a safe working patform to reach that height....Also depends on how tall you are..........I,m over 6ft so reaching off my work platform is no probs ...( 600mm)....As long as you are working safely then you will be ok.......

Did some tiling in a public building a couple of years ago and the site manager told me off for working on a decorators platform in the corridor. He made them assemble a mini scaffold for me and said you are not allowed to work over 60 cm off the floor without hand rails.

I always used 18 mm Marine ply bath board to work off

Now, Now.... Even if he is short... He might have VERY LONG ARMS! :hurray:
LOL

I have done it by putting an 18mm thick ply on the bath and then a beer crate on top of it (and one on the floor.... to reach the bath...)

I am 6'3, so am thinking of just getting a slightly taller platform than the one I have or the ply idea.

Cheers for the ideas guys  ...have a great weekend

Then you will be ok......us taller guys don't usually have a problem....just the shortie's............
